Games, dances, and songs for kids

 Children's Games and Dances

While some songs don't include counting, they do have a progressive quality and adhere to some sort of structure or sequence.

These songs include Old McDonald Had a Farm, where kids sing the sounds each animal makes between each stanza.

The Farmer's in His Den is another such farming song that has a set order. "The Farmer's in his Den" and comparable songs are usually performed to go with dances; they are a type of children's game.

The "Hokey Cokey," which was given this name in the 1940s but is based on a much older folk tune, is another song in this genre.

Some of these songs could also be further divided into "playground tunes" (such as "Skipping, Hopscotch.

Counting Rhymes

Some nursery rhymes, which either use regular upwards numbering or include counting downwards for some songs, aid in the teaching of numbers and counting.

While Baa Baa Black Sheep really counts out three sacks of wool, Three Blind Mice doesn't explicitly count but the melody repeats three powerful beats, which serves to emphasise the number three.

One Two Buckle My Shoe is a different counting rhyme that is spoken rather than sung, hence we are unable to offer music for it.

Rounds - Singing Exercises

A variety of songs, including Three Blind Mice, Row, Row, Row Your Boat, London's Burning, and Frere Jacques, have structures that make them suitable for circle singing.

For smaller kids, in particular, these songs make ideal nursery rhymes as-is. They grow more complex songs as a round, with other singers starting at various points, making them more appropriate for older kids.

A common strategy used by classical composers, who refer to the approach as a "Canon," is the idea of singing or performing around a circle.

Although we have only listed the most popular Round Songs here, even "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" can be performed as a round.

Please take note that we have only used two voices for each illustration so that the two hands of a piano can clearly show the method.

Songs for Older Children

These songs are more adult in nature and a little more challenging for younger kids to learn, but they can still be classified as children's songs.

Some of these songs, including the well-known "The Runaway Train," could also be categorised as adult folk songs because of their more recent origins. Jingle Bells and other Christmas carols are examples of seasonal children's songs.

Early One Morning and Swing Low Sweet Chariot are two songs from our collection of folk tunes that are appropriate for young listeners.

Similar to this, some music hall songs, like Daisy Bell and Daddy Wouldn't Buy Me a Bow-Wow, are also taught to and well-liked by kids.

Nursery Rhymes mp3

On all platforms, there are already a large number of children's songs available. Both mp3 files and song CDs are also available.

We already know how important they are for kids, and parents are free to download and listen to them whenever they want in the house, the car, and even the nursery.

Finally, I'd want to thank you for reading and wish you all the best as you look forward to the future.
